About

Mahtab Alizadeh is an Iranian/British multi-disciplinary artist in London. She was born in Tehran, Iran in 1975. Her father was an artist, and it is his influence and art that encouraged her to become an artist herself.

She obtained her Bachelor’s of fine art in 1988 and her Masters of fine arts from Azad University in Iran in 2000.

Mahtab has worked as a successful freelance artist in Iran for the best part of a decade. She has worked with the Rasanehfard and Saba animation companies as a background animation artist between 1994 and 2001, after which she established the Sayeh Art Institute in Tehran. Here, she taught drawing and painting to different groups of students across a variety of techniques. Her artworks have been housed in private and public collections throughout Iran and the Middle East.

Mahtab has moved to London in 2011, where she has been creating since. Her art centers on femininity, private life, and women's social conditions, particularly focusing on gender issues and questions of power. Mahtab works across various media, with her realistic style tapping into women's inner emotions, their beautiful dreams, powers and fears.

Mahtab’s recent compositions are bold and have a high black and white contrast. In recent years, Mahtab's focus has shifted to digital painting and body art (tattooing). She is fascinated by how the body can serve as a canvas for designs and ideas. She wants to pursue her passion for tattooing and create art which adds beauty to the human body.
